Problem with Xalan/XSLT

I tried to reproduce the problem: on a default Cocoon build, I changed
welcome.xml and added &#322; to its content, started jetty, surfed to the
welcome page, and I get no exception and see the character.

Could you create a simple reproducable testcase?
