BTW, I tested this also last week but after 500 Iterations I thought that the problem doesn't happen to this resource. - o - This fact made my life much easier because I could debug Cocoon directly and not within our application. - o - Finally I think I found the Memory Leak. Since the C21 Core staff is highly guristic to me (from guru **gg**) I'm of course not sure if I'm right. But with my Fix my tests work ok now. Ok. Here we go. I tracked down the lifecycle of a SitemapSource and found that allready at creation of the Source the init() method makes pretty much work to prepare the pipeline. For this reason an extra method of the AbstractProcessingPipeline exists, the prepareInternal(). SitemapSource.init() | +--> ... AbstractProcessingPipeline.prepareInternal() | +--> ... ServerPagesGenerator.setup() [simplified callgraph, not complete] I made breakpoints to SitemapSource init() and recycle(). Every Source is recycled the right way! (So definetifely no problems with recycle) After this I digged down the code beginning from init() until I reached the generate() method of my own serverpage. I did this a few times and realized that setup got called twice! Ok, than I set a new breakpoint to ServerPagesGenerator.setup(), and indeed, for every included xsp, the setup() method got called twice. Than I walked the stack up from ServerPagesGenerator.setup() to the calling method and - surprise - it was SitemapSource.getInputSource(). SitemapSource.getInputStream() | +--> ... If the cocoon:// protocol is used the Processor is fetched via this.processor = (Processor)this.manager.lookup(Processor.ROLE); with the cocoon:/ protocol the statement is this.processor = CocoonComponentManager.getCurrentProcessor(); The TreeProcessor itself is marked ThreadSafe, and that means there is one instance for the whole container.
