I have the exact same requirement. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear the authentication framework doesn't make this easy. The ideal solution would be to have DefaultAuthenticationManager's checkAuthentication store the current request in the session and then redirect to it after login completes if it is there. Otherwise it would go to the handler's redirect-to uri. I would also propose requiring another attribute on the redirect-to uri to enable this behavior.
Does anyone have any objections to this enhancement?
