Thanks Reinhard - to me this looks really good, and the fact that you're backing your proposal with actual work makes all the difference ;-)
I have added a few comments on the wiki, nothing very important at this stage.
I like both of your ideas.
The "SimpleContentModel" may solve the problems where to put resources like images (haven't had a solution up to now for this).
