Well, that's an interesting question. It's really a man-power issue.
One project I envision could be to port all of the [vfs] providers to the new Java 7 framework. That is no small undertaking. I can imagine a "VFS 3.0" or "7.0" that would only deliver Java 7 file system providers and no framework (like we currently do). That would break with the current code base as I imaging it might be too "hoopy" (as in having to jump through too many hoops, I just made that up) to re-use some core code between a Java 7 provider that delegates to said core and the current VFS framework that would delegate to the same core. That would be ideal, but I'm not sure how nice or needed that would be. Right now, I'd like to release a [vfs] 2.1 as there are a LOT of changes in trunk since 2.0. Like everybody else, I'm busy with a family, a job, and hobbies... All that being said, a house is built one brick at a time, so this could be started with one provier... Volunteers welcome!
