Generally, you'll be more successful if you choose a project and a task you are interested in. It is easier to motivate yourself to complete a task you have selected than one that has been selected for you. That said, if you want a suggestion, I'd suggest Apache Tomcat. There are currently a large number of low confidence FindBugs warnings that the community would like to fix or mark as false positives. If you join the Tomcat dev mailing list (see http://tomcat.apache.org/lists.html) and there someone (possibly me) will point you in the right direction.
