Hi - When a PMC retires a subproject it remains with the PMC. The Attic takes retired PMCs and their projects, and I think does not distinguish their subprojects are longer. (I could be wrong).

Also, proejects.apache.org is dependent on DOAP for subprojects and these are voluntary updates from PMCs which are manually created.
