Hi, folks, As you may have seen, I’ve been tweaking projects.apache.org <http://projects.apache.org/> over the past week.
I believe (based on zero data) that there are two main audiences for this site. 1) People looking for a project to get involved with, who don’t know much about the projects. 2) People looking for details on Apache ProjectX, who already pretty much know how stuff works around here. Audience 1 is the most interesting project to me, and, I believe, to ComDev in general, and so I want to lean the site heavily in that direction. To that end, I’ve mocked up (Discloser: Claude has mocked up) four options for what that front page might look like. I’ve rolled out one of them already, because I think it’s the best but I wanted to get more eyes on the options — or, better yet, find an *actual* designer with UX experience who can suggest option E. Anyways, attaching four mockups here for your consideration: A: Two blocks with “Looking for a project to get involved in?” B: Large orange block which draws attention more? C: Circular icons, same general layout D: Put the “choose a project” form right there on the front page! Let me know what you think. My personal preference is B. I think D is too busy, and A and C are just slightly less eye-catching.
