I had mentioned this work to Peter Kelly a couple of times, and finally got
back in touch with the researcher in Beijing.
UOF is the Universal Office Format that was specified in China. There have
been efforts to harmonize UOF and ODF but I do not know the current state of
any effort in that regard.
The work that caught my eye in 2013 was a model for metrics about feature
preservation in inter-conversion, weighted by the incidence and importance of a
given feature and its drilled-down finer details. I have a meeting report

About Corinthia, I do not think html5 can describe all the information in
document format, such as OOXML. But for most features, document-format
conversion via HTML5 is OK. We are doing some similar work and have written a
paper but not published. The following is the abstract of the paper.
“Abstract: We propose a new type of style markup language to address the
advantage of separation of content and presentation in office document formats,
allow the reuse and sharing of styles in a standard way, and attain good
interoperability with HTML/CSS as well as good compatibility with current UOF
specification. We begin with a review of the development of the office
document format represented by UOF and the web document format HTML/CSS. We
note that in spite of independent development both types of document format are
moving towards separation of content and presentation, and therefore good
interoperability is expected. We illustrate by example what the proposed
mark-up language could look like and give an example to illustrate its use in
transforming a sample HTML/CSS page into UOF. In the conclusion we note the
importance of such a mark-up language for the future of the web office or
Office 2.0 which is believed the future of office applications in the age of
cloud computing.”
I think it is good for us to let Corinthia Project know our work about the
model. But it is regretful that I will not attend the WG8 meeting in Bellevue.

Now WG8 will be meeting in Bellevue, Washington again.

In either case, I have been meaning to communicate with you.
Last year I began looking at interoperability and problems of correct tracking
of changes to a document at the level users perceive. I have presented two
papers about that at the DChanges 2014 Workshop. It was part of the Document
Engineering 2014 Symposium, <https://sites.google.com/site/dchanges14/program>.
I think the first of my papers, on the Document Format Anti-Pattern, may be of
interest to you. A post-workshop revision and peer review have concluded. I
will make final changes and the paper will be available to the public. I will
let you know when it is available.
I thought of your work when I began exploring how much needs to be comprehended
in terms of document abstraction and its preservation, along with fidelity of
presentation.
At the end of 2014, I also became involved in the Apache Corinthia project,
which intends to provide document-format conversion via a decorated HTML5
intermediary. I am not confident of that model. I do think the conversion
work will be valuable anyhow. Information about Corinthia is at
<http://corinthia.incubator.apache.org/>.
It is my desire to make information about your work on models and assessment of
conversions/interchange known to the Corinthia Project. It would be valuable
for the project, and for me, in examining the abstraction of standard document
formats in ways where the ability to inter-convert is measurable.

share with others here in the US.
