partitioning strategy

I know it's a long way off, but I was wondering if there is a writeup out
there or some info on what partitioning might look like when implemented?
I've been working through a few things that could certainly benefit but in
spite of my best efforts to guess and extrapolate the design out, I'm pretty
sure I'm wrong. Any thoughts, musings, anything?
