Resolution: Cannot Reproduce
This looks like a transient issue related to an initial build which failed due
to a mismatched curl version, leaving artifacts on the source tree. The fix was
to rm -rf * && svn up and rerun ./bootstrap && ./configure
Still, if anyone else runs across this, please reopen.

ameoba_: it wouldn't be *that* difficult to add, but the current major
bottleneck is the Erlang - JSON conversions. There's some work being done on
adding an Erlang bif to speed that up
