Roger, thanks! I think we are all working constructively towards this end and having another dedicated person to support, cheer and test things is great. I'm thankful for that. But this is also a young open source project and there are simply not the resources to do everything that is remotely possible, nor is it wise to add every kitchen sink feature :) It is not that we don't want CouchDB fast and efficient for your use-case, but we can't do anything about it in a short timeframe, nor can we just jump to it and leave everything and everybody (Hi Eric :) else hanging. As for JIRA, figuring out the root cause for the excessive disk space usage you are seeing (the extend to which you documented it already is great!) and adding objective criteria as to what a proposed solution could provide: like "go from 10x to 5x disk space use by implementing the foobarbaz algorithm", we have a goal we can work towards.
