This isn't quite right. That "is_valid_utf8" function is definitely not at all
near correct. Luckily there's a version that is in couch_util. Just replacing
it should make things work but I'm having issues getting the test to pass and
its nearly lunch time.
If you can write up a failing test that this fixes and attach that I'll commit
this later this afternoon.
