Simon Eisenmann commented on COUCHDB-1652:
------------------------------------------
Uhm i am not exactly sure what you mean, but if you mean if the name of the
databases are normal human readable names, then yes. The databases are named
nothing like the names of those files.
The databases gets compacted nightly (calling compact on all databases and all
views). In addition all deleted documents older than 1 day are purged (_purge)
nightly. Not sure, but might be related.
> CouchDB does not release disk space from .deleted files

> Project: CouchDB
> Issue Type: Bug
> Components: Database Core
> Affects Versions: 1.2
> Environment: Ubuntu 8.04, 10.04, 12.04 , CouchDB 1.2.0, CouchDB
> 1.2.1, Erlang 14b4 64bit platform

> I noticed on long running servers a disk space increase over time. Though the
> database in itself did not grow. After investigation i found that there are
> lots of files still open which have already been deleted.
> I see this on all installations on Ubuntu 8.04, 10.04 and 12.04 all 64bit
> with CouchDB 1.2.0 and 1.2.1 with Erlang 14b4.

> space to tools like df.
