Docs replication is awesome idea. Sphinx docs may be safely stored within
regular document as attachments:
http://kxepal.iriscouch.com/docs/1.3/index.html
The only question there about to have some official CouchDB-driven storage for
these docs (and/or make docs.couchdb.org acts as CouchDB database) to let users
always get latest and actual docs.
