[~ioquatix] The view server protocol & performance is critical to couchdb.
While I'm sure a new approach will deliver some improvements, we need to be
sure the biggest fish are being optimised first. If you're still interested in
doing a GSoC project on this, you might consider splitting up into a couple of
phases, "measure first" and "do stuff" in your project. That's not to say that
what you've proposed isn't possible, but it might be possible to achieve more
substantial improvements before changing the protocol -- or it might be that
this is the best improvement after all -- I trust that clarifies things.
