The existing couch_stats system collects a number of metrics already. I think the idea is to start with those and provide an interface that makes it easy and cheap to add more as we go along. I think COUCHDB-1751 should be scoped to the collection and exporting engine; let's defer additional instrumentation of the rest of the codebase for the moment. Adam
