Benjamin Young created COUCHDB-2185:
---------------------------------------

             Summary: Database redirects
                 Key: COUCHDB-2185
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/COUCHDB-2185
             Project: CouchDB
          Issue Type: Story
      Security Level: public (Regular issues)
            Reporter: Benjamin Young

This is totally a random idea, but one that would further [Webize
|http://www.w3.org/DesignIssues/Webize.html] CouchDB.

As a developer, I need a way to “tombstone” old database names and redirect
traffic to the new location.

The Web has this in the form of 301/302 redirects. Perhaps we could have a
config section or some other way to mark a DB file as serving as a redirect to
another one.

I realize this is likely one of the larger “can of worm” ideas posted in the
life of any open source project. So take all of it with several grains of salt.
