@rnewson OK, but do we all agree that @benoitc's spec is the one to go
with? It seems like it meets all the requirements we discussed in COUCHDB-2310.
Unfortunately @dholth that would mean a bit of a rewrite, since [your
spec](https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/COUCHDB-2310?focusedCommentId=14122248&page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel#comment-14122248)
is similar but not exactly the same. What do you think?
