my understanding is, that nano is not only a random library but the most
widely used library to communicate with CouchDB. The approach here is to
not let the library die and there is already a maintainer who is supporting
the move. Hopefully he will stay with the project ;-)

But I can understand your concerns and we already had discussions about how
to further maintain our own library which is used in Futon.
