2.1.1 > 1.7.1:
- multicore view/mango indexing, even on single nodes vie sharding
- significantly faster compaction and less i/o-hungry compaction (this alone 
makes me pick 2.x over 1.x)
- Mango & other new features.

1.7.1 > 2.1.1
- precisely known operational and performance behaviour if you’ve been on 1.x 
for a long time.
- if you need a code review/certification for compliance reasons, 2.1.1 as a 
lot more new code that needs reviewing.
- I have not third point.

tl;dr: unless you have very conservative requirements and an existing 1.x 
infrastructure, you want 2.x.
