This is similar to running Couch on mobile phones. Perhaps an alternative is starting with another "Couch Compatible" database that's lighter weight?
Perhaps PouchDB running on Node.js comes to mind. This implements the replication/sync protocol between Couch compatible databases, without being an erlang based, sharded, distributed backend.
