The longer I think about it and the longer it takes to get out 0.17 (with many big changes including the configuration of ignores and plugin runs) I'm in favour of dropping the JDK8-restriction.
+1 for raising the minimum level to JDK11(in order to be able to update to newer dependency versions and use more modern language features as well)
