RAT 0.17.0 is nearing release and the development team would like to invite you to try out the latest implementation before we finalize the release.

The documentation is available at: https://creadur.apache.org/rat017/index.html <https://creadur.apache.org/rat017/index.html> And the snapshot is available from the Apache snapshot repository: https://repository.apache.org/content/repositories/snapshots <https://repository.apache.org/content/repositories/snapshots>

Coordinates:
group id: org.apache.rat
artifact id: apache-rat
version: 0.17.0-SNAPSHOT

Be aware that the documentation is still under review and testing.

This release sees massive changes in reporting and configuration.

The format of the XML has changed. There is an output xsd: https://github.com/apache/creadur-rat/blob/master/apache-rat-core/src/main/resources/org/apache/rat/rat-report.xsd <https://github.com/apache/creadur-rat/blob/master/apache-rat-core/src/main/resources/org/apache/rat/rat-report.xsd>

The major changes to the XML are
     • A resource may now have multiple detected licenses.
     • more RAT version information is available.
    • media type, encoding, and a directory flag are available for resources.
     • A timestamp attribute is included in the "rat-report" root element.
    • there is a "statistics" element that contains counts for the various statistics as well as the count for each license category, license name, and document type.

There are a number of configuration changes that include deprecating a number of command line options and adding new options to better control scanning and output.

The command line changes are reflected in both the Ant tools and Maven plugin.

There are tools to assist anyone who wants to build a plugin for their favorite build system.

We know this is a rather big change, but it positions us to make our first version 1 release and make it easier to develop more options in the future. We would greatly appreciate any early feedback on 0.17.0-SNAPSHOT.
