Sean Owen commented on CRUNCH-616: ---------------------------------- Thanks, I'll work on this. There's another related issue. It's actually not necessary to include the Project Gutenberg license in the project or works, and the license itself says this. In fact it might be slightly problematic to do so as it suggests the license terms apply. They don't. Crunch is just redistributing the public domain text and not using the trademarks or using PG's copyrighted collection of the works. That can be removed too. Of course, entertainingly, that changes a lot of the values written into tests that use the Shakespeare text, but I'll work on it. > Test file maugham.txt still copyrighted outside the US? > ------------------------------------------------------- > > Key: CRUNCH-616 > URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CRUNCH-616 > Project: Crunch > Issue Type: Bug > Components: Core > Affects Versions: 0.14.0 > Reporter: Sean Owen > Assignee: Josh Wills > Priority: Minor > > A review of some licensing issues internally flagged one potential problem in > Crunch: the maugham.txt file used for testing. This is "Of Human Bondage" > published in 1915. Although it's evidently public domain in the US and > distributed by Project Gutenberg, it's not clear it's out of copyright in the > UK, where I presume it was (also) published. The UK copyright term is life > plus 70 years and Somerset Maugham died in 1965. > Does anyone happen to know anything more definitive about the status of this > work? I kind of guess [~jwills] added it. If it's uncertain, would anyone > object to me removing it, possibly replacing it with something obviously out > of copyright everywhere? -- This message was sent by Atlassian JIRA (v6.3.4#6332)
