Hi Hua,
Yes, the Common Type System could be found in the svn [1] and diagram [2].
For interoperability, it would be nice to populate the Medication attribute
types (opposed to the MedEx specific one). From initial glance, it looks like
the common type system should support it without many changes.
One can just include type system as a maven dependency or import that above
UIMA xml. Would you also be interested in have the code maintained in ASF
community? I think it would be a great addition to the existing cTAKES
components... I'll be happy to assist if it's something you're interested in
pursuing.

Pei,

MedEx-UIMA is rule-based, instead of ML. :) What are the work involved in using
the cTAKES common type system? We could consider it when Min has time. Thanks.

Hua

Dr. Xu,
That was a wonderful presentation on MedEx (ML based medication extraction)
during the iDASH webinar.
Would there be any interest in contributing/integrating MedEx-UIMA as an Apache
cTAKES [1] component/module? I had a quick look at the code and it looks like
it's already using Java/UIMA already (perhaps the only main item to change
would be to use the cTAKES common type system).
