I had to add quite a few packages to the classpath when I set up ctakes in
Eclipse to get it running. Seeing the specific error you're getting would be
useful, as well as how you're running it.

If you need more logging information you can try setting the DEBUG level in
log4j.xml too.

Subject: Trouble with fresh dev install

I've been banging my head against the all for a few weeks now and reaching out
for help.

I'm trying to do a fresh dev installation so I can finally move from developing
on my personal laptop to my work computer, and am not having any luck getting
up and running.

Here's what I'm doing:

1) New Hyper-V VM running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS desktop

2) Install OpenJDK-8 java, set JAVA_HOME variable

3) Follow Eclipse IDE instructions (I don't know eclipse well, but I know it
much better than IntelliJ)

4) Set -Dctakes.umlsuser and pw as default VM arguments for my JRE

5) attempt Run Configuration "UIMA_CVD--clinical_documents_pipeline"

It fails almost immediately, and the only error message in the console is:
Error: Could not find or load main class org.apache.uima.tools.annot_view.Gladis

I suspect it is a configuration issue, but have no idea how to resolve it. I've
tried installing the UIMA SDK manually, creating UIMA_HOME variable, and even
adding the various UIMA jars as external dependencies, and while that gets rid
of this particular error and actually allows the UIMA CVD window to launch, I
get other errors then when I try to load an analysis engine.

I don't recall having to install UIMA SDK or add any external jars the last
time I set up cTAKES, so I haven't gone too far down that road to try to fix
things - I feel like I am missing some major configuration step.

Has anyone recently done a fresh dev install? Any steps missing from the online
instructions?

Thanks in advance for any guidance.
