I need some PMC approvals on this issue. The code changes required to move the ds-java code base (java 8 and 11) to Java 17 required a major rewrite of the code. So much so that a merge back to the master branch would be massive, with lots of conflicts. Since we have decided that there will be no further development on Java 8/11, only code fixes, it makes sense to move the default branch to "main", which is where all the Java 17 code exists, and all further development will be based on that branch.
Task: Change current default branch "master" to existing branch "main". Only INFRA can do this, and they want to see a discussion/vote on dev@ to demonstrate consensus. The vote will be performed as follows: - This letter will be published on dev@ and remain open for at least 72 hours (excluding weekends and holidays), AND until at least 3 (+1) PMC votes or a majority of (+1) PMC votes are acquired.
