Release progress update: - [x] #257 merged as `c752a9bed172806fc0aea79ad07220c46da87df1`; all required CI checks passed. - [x] Release-manager prerequisites checked: the Apache signing key `8B374472FAD328E17F479863B379691FC6E298DD` is available locally and present in DataSketches `KEYS`, the current crates.io account is an owner of `datasketches`, and ASF SVN credentials are available. - [x] Executed the documented start of RC tag preparation. - [ ] Merge #258, which fixes the observed `git grep -Fx` failure in Step 2. Its full CI matrix is green. - [ ] Record the new merge commit and create `0.5.0-rc.1` from that exact commit. No RC tag, crates.io prerelease, or `dist/dev` candidate has been created yet.
