In case anyone's interested, the Oracle supplied ODBC drivers appear to work better than the JDBC ones. At least new tables can be created anyway.

As further info I'm getting much better results with Microsoft's Oracle driver than the Oracle supplied one. Am able to insert new rows with fields having database generated numbers (sequences, triggers, etc).

Microsoft call it their ".NET Managed Provider for Oracle", and it can be found here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?releaseid=40032

That URL looks like it might not last over time, so it's also referenced from this URL too which may be more lasting:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q244661/

Hope this helps.

Regards and best wishes,
