There have been minor changes since 1.0.0, which led us to increasing the number for 1.0.1. Those changes are not relevant to functionality (except that in one case, it /could/ fix the localhost problem we were not able to reproduce reliably), but more about adding correct RPATHs to the libs, and technical stuff like that. At the time of 3.3, there should be a 1.0.1 release. Distros include 1.0.1 since they usually take the version from the main trunk, which already is 1.0.1.
