totally agree with Reza.
Apart from that I'm not sure about lumping HTTP clients together with
bots.
I agree that bots are a very tricky subject and should be treated
properly and just "isBot", while often "OK", in this context is not
very useful : for example sites could be OK with Google bots but not
OK with mail scraping bots or for that matter http clients.
And then there is the case of bots with 'crafted' user-agent strings
like a google-bot 'impersonating' a mobile device or that mail
scrapping bot trying to be clever.
It seems to me that by keeping things as Reza describes and using the
XML resources and patch-files [as suggested earlier] all the above
cases and more can be dealt with depending on the use-case -- thru the
use of the patch and resource files.
