Hi Werner, Without talking specifically about Volkan, people who contribute to the project (in whatever manner they can and see fit) are called *contributors* [0][1].
If they make a significant contribution to the project, the PMC can decide to offer them write access to the code repository, essentially trusting them to perform changes by themselves (this doesn't mean that important code / documentation contributions shouldn't be reviewed and discussed beforehand with the community). In this case the *contributor* becomes a *committer*. If the PMC considers that a *committer* has shown constant commitment to the project the *committer* can be elected *PMC member*.
