I would very much prefer SL4J any over of the other options as it properly separates the logging API from the implementation.

I think we need to vote now.  Using Log4J can bring issues to other users who use other logging frameworks like java.util.logging.  This is important because ApacheDS are designed to be embeddable.  That's why I prefer SLF4J or Commons Logging.
