This is why slamd seams a good tool. If its performance is bad, then it's
up to the users to improve it. Version 2.0.0 seems promizing, with
another backend (BDB JE)

I use 2.0 checked out of CVS. ;) And I've got plenty of network bandwidth at the moment (1GB between all systems). It certainly can do what is necessary as long as I give it enough machines to do the work. I'd just prefer to use fewer than I do now. ;)
