I think, this special case is not worth to mention explicitly.
I just stated it as an example. A partition implementation may use every
storage technology (RDBMS, OO/XML databases, flat files, the memory
...), it is up to the developer to implement the interface according to
its contract (which is the interface plus some rules stated in the
javadoc).
