The server.xml is not necessary in this case, because it is not used in
the embedding example (no Spring). The web.xml is also not necessary, if
you use the one which is provided with the example.
The stack trace you have already provided is helpful but quite strange.
Can you provided us the version numbers of the
* Operating System
* JVM
* Tomcat and
* ApacheDS
you use, please.
