You had to use the workaround to get it right?
I dug a little more and found this issue [1] fixed in version 2.0-beta-9.
Looks like this configuration should fix the issue and should require the
use of a workaround:
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-release-plugin</artifactId>
<version>2.0-beta-9-SNAPSHOT</version>
<configuration>
<remoteTagging>true</remoteTagging>
</configuration>
</plugin>
This is something we may have to test in a next release.
