Kubuntu was the keyword.
I was able to reproduce same error using Kubuntu. I installed gnome (apt-get
install gnome) but under KDE it still crashes. If I start a gnome session
instead of KDE it starts up, so all libraries seem to be installed. If I switch
back to KDE it crashes again. I have no clue yet what the problem is.
