[~AndreasSiegel], I have modified the shutdown process on the trunk to use a
safer approach. It has resolved this issue on Windows as well as _*nix_. You
could try building from the trunk to verify that it works for you. Or wait for
the M21 release... Though i just noticed that this ticket is explicitly about
_embedded_ server... So it might not help in that instance because something
other than the shell script ({{apacheds.sh}}) would be responsible for politely
asking the directory server to shut down...
