Emmanuel Lecharny commented on DIRSTUDIO-1153:
----------------------------------------------

Generally speaking, Studio being an app, not a service, it does not need a
complex setup to have it running on a linux machine. A {{tar.gz}} is almost all
you need, and this is what we provide.

We would of course appreciate if someone were to propose a better solution,
like the one you propose, but we currently don't have the time to check what
exists and how it works.

But this is open source, and every contribution is of course very welcome ! So
feel free to propose something that would create better packages - and of
course that is compatible with AL 2.0 license ! -.

FTR, we provide {{rpm}} and {{deb}} packages for the Apache Directory Server,
using an old version of the Tanuki wrapper (which sadly does not offer a
support for Windows 64), and we might migrate to something like YAJSW sooner or
later.

> Flatpak [1] and Snap [2] are new package formats that bundle all dependencies
> in the package. They are available in (almost) all distros, allowing a
> developer to create their own release channel (including updates) without the
> procedural requirements of getting into a particular distro. (Although that
> is still a great goal.)
> Would you consider releasing Apache Directory Studio via Flatpak or Snap?
