Andrei commented on DIRSTUDIO-1249:
-----------------------------------

Thanks [~seelmann] for your quick reply.

I've started to check what you've asked and in the meantime I've also clicked
on the reload schema. Then everything worked.

As I wanted to see again if the "reload schema" was the trigger, I've tried to
check the steps in M14 but there it didn't work anymore.

Also in M15 I was able now to see the correct attribute in other directories as
well, without manually refreshing their schemas, so I think the problem lays
somewhere else.

Maybe on me: although I think I've tested yesterday with M15 too, I'm today not
sure anymore because I can't explain why *now everything works in M15* but not
in M14.

*I'll mark the issue as resolved* and try to change the Environment for the
issue to M14.

---------------
 * Is the 1.3.6.1.4.1.1466.115.121.1.5 syntax listed in the "Binary Syntax
Definitions" preferences?

Yes

!image-2020-04-21-08-54-33-185.png!

 * is the attribute shown there with it's correct syntax?

Yes

!image-2020-04-21-08-55-19-581.png!
 * Is the the default userSMIMECertificate attribute defined in inetOrgPerson
object class?

Yes, but I'm talking here about a *custom* abcUserSMIMECertificate *attribute.*

 * In any case please try to add the attribute name to the "Binary Attributes"
preferences

I've added it to M14, but I see no difference.

> A binary value from the LDAP Server is parsed or encoded incorrectly in
> Apache Directory Studio.
> The value contains a SMIME Certificate and has the following properties:
> * m-syntax: 1.3.6.1.4.1.1466.115.121.1.5 (binary,
> [https://ldapwiki.com/wiki/1.3.6.1.4.1.1466.115.121.1.5] )
> * m-singleValue: TRUE
> The value has in reality 1667 bytes but is reported as binary data with a
> size of 2422 bytes.
> I can read the value correctly with a console program (ldapmodify) but I
> can't get the correct value in Apache Directory Studio. I've tried to copy
> the value as base64, export the user as LDIF, and to open with the hex editor
> and trying to save the data).
> In the output there are a lot of "EF BF BD" sequences (the UTF-8 encoded
> 'Replacement Character')
> !image-2020-04-20-18-06-52-949.png!
> The correct file should look like this:
> !image-2020-04-20-18-07-26-199.png!
