Hello,

I hope this mailing list is the best place within OpenOffice.org community
to discuss the bouncer for OpenOffice.org. If not, could you please point
it out and kindly tell me a pointer for a better place?

You may have noticed there is a thread "Geographically adaptive bouncer"
in the mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] have been discussing the bouncer.

The bouncer has been working very well. Time goes, some concerns from
perspective of network administrator in a huge company and end users have
been raised these days.

I would like to open my eyes and ears to listen to your thoughts about the
concerns cited below.

=====
One enterprise customer asked in the BBS of Japanese community about
'Check for Update' having a concern on the hit rate and capacity of
their internal http proxy server.
"Is there a list of the mirror sites? How many sites are offered?"

The answer were:
  http://distribution.openoffice.org/mirrors/#mirrors
  At told 121 sites (59 HTTP, 59 FTP, and 3 rsync) are listed.

The size of OpenOffice.org 2.4.1 Windows with JRE Japanese is 129MB.
The number of the employees in his company is more than thousands.
What will happen? Eventually the proxy server will be occupied by the
59 identical binary files from different mirror sites. The total amount
would reach at 7.6GB (129MB times 59).

Is that intended?

Additionally, assume that you were in Paris and click on a link at
http://download.openoffice.org/ to start downloading the latest OOo.
The bouncer kindly would offer you one of the listed HTTP mirror sites.
The offered site would be one of the HTTP mirror sites spreading all
over the world. Sometime it would be in Africa, sometime, in Brazil,
sometime in India, ...

That means the current bouncer tends to offer cross-over-sea, cross-
over-continental Internet connections for downloading OpenOffice.org.

Is that intended?

How can we improve the bouncer?
=====

Any idea?

Best Regards,
Tora
