Hi, should we maybe rewrite such requests automatically?
mod_rewrite (the Apache web server's Swiss Army knife) has tools for that; it can check if the file is exists, and if not, try the alternative filename, and depending on that it could automatically rewrite the URL to the working one. That would mean half an hour of work the problem could be eliminated for good. I don't know how many people run into this and if it's worth the effort...
