Apache Diversity & Inclusion is participating once again in the Outreachy program [1], a remote internship program where interns contribute to free and open-source software communities over a three-month period and receive a full-time stipend. This program is somewhat comparable to Google Summer of Code, though the eligibility requirements for both projects and interns are somewhat different. Our goal is to support people from groups underrepresented in the technology industry. Interns will work remotely with mentors on projects ranging from programming, user experience, documentation, illustration, and graphic design, to data science.
This is your opportunity to participate. We are calling for mentors, anyone in the ASF community could be a mentor. ASF Members can directly apply and submit their project proposal at [3]. Contributors and committers should obtain approval (lazy consensus) of the PMC via the private mail list of the project you wish to mentor for, simply send an email with your project proposal and your intention of participation, if no one disagrees after 72 hours, you got your lazy consensus. Then, you can submit your project proposal at [3]. An FAQ [2] is available for those looking for details on project and mentor requirements. If you would like to mentor, co-mentor, or otherwise get involved in making a project proposal (or multiple proposals), register at [3] and click "Submit a Project Proposal" to mentor a new proposal or follow the other form to co-mentor an existing project proposal once available.
