Test Site for New Faqs: <http://scott.progbits.com/doctest/>

Seems to be the key for the week is revamping this and revamping that. Well I
have the script done for the FAQs. The code is developed in Perl, and pulls
pages directly from the oooauthors website, parses the content, seperates the
directories, and FAQs, and populates Index and FAQ files.

I have a template system setup, so I can change the look and feel of the FAQ's VERY EASILY.

I still need to add a Next and Previous to the faq items to account for easy
browsing, but other than that, what do you think?

They're nice. Things transferred nicely. Did you have to play with the input set to help make that happen?

Also, the script will only write a file if there is a change, that way I can run the script then run cvs commit on the folder and only have to worry about the changes to the file.

So, this means for the general public, all changes should occur at OOoAuthors...? I assume that to be how it will work.

I tested this functionality by changing one of the FAQ's on the OOoAuthors site, and rerunning my spider program, and it correctly picked up the 3 files
that were changed out of 516 processed files.

I have not played with this yet. I will follow through on some of the issues I opened, but another day. I did a full quick inspection; I mostly just clicked the links, for the most part.

[...] Turns out some of the Descriptions of the directories are rather long winded.

I will work to simplify some of those so that they flow with each other and tell what's inside the next click.

Keep in mind, I can change the format, which is rather plain, extremely easy, so feel free to come up with some new formats.

I'm still bugged by the depth of the directory tree. I am wondering if I should pull some of the faqs into one directory at the oooauthors site. The problem there is that you cannot change their order in the FAQ Plone product. We have folders with 3 or 4 questions... that seems like too many folders to me. In some folders, maybe sub-directories are helpful.

I'd like to see full navigation links on each page, including all the upper
levels of the tree, so that you can see where you are in the tree. You have this
sort of thing at the original faqs, so I am wondering if you are thinking the
same way.

Do you have any thoughts about the directory structure?

That makes me think of questions:

What happens when you upload this to cvs, and then at oooauthors, I move a bunch
of stuff around, like maybe I delete a bunch of folders and move faqs to other
folders. Now, you catch the action, xfer it, and your tree is all different than
the one at OOo. How does that work, or does that work? Are there limitations we
should know?

I guess I've procrastinated time tests too. there's always tomorrow...

:)

Thanx for you time!

Diane
