Hi,
I forwarded this mail (German version) to the German dev List too.

My answer to Uwe was (this is a free translation of my answer in German :-) ):

In my mind the only way to do this is to have the same link in every language (with a lang-string like name_en_us or name_de_de). The link should show to a script not to a static page.

The script should look if the document exists, if not it should show a short message in the language of the ordered document.

Why a script? Because this is the only way to prevent broken links every time, get the links in all languages without creating directories in each native-lang site.

If we will use a site on colabnet we have to use javascript for this job because php or other tools are not supported.

Regards
Marko

Hi Uwe,

I gather this message to another mailing list and not to the doc
project's main list was a simple oversight. I am forwarding it there so
that members of our project also have the opportunity to contribute.

Subject: [authors] Linking OOo Help and OOo community documentation
Date: Fri, 11 Aug 2006 10:14:47 +0200
Newsgroups: openoffice.user-faq.authors

Hi,

we (the authors of StarOffice and OpenOffice.org Help) would like to give more links from the (F1) Help to the documentation on documentation.openoffice.org. May be to other Web sites, too.

However, there are possible problematic areas:
- we really don't want to get broken links (addresses should stay unchanged over several years, including file names, or there must always be a valid redirection) - we can only give a link to one document in one language; there is no automatic language context switching as for many Web sites, and most documents are available only in one language anyhow.

What do you think?

Regards
Uwe
