AFAIK, the sources are attached to issue 29679. I don't know anything more than is listed in the comments to that issue. Given my over-committment to other work (primarily at OOoAuthors), I haven't been involved with working on GRS's book.
Scott said some time ago that if no one else came forward to take responsibility for the user guide, then he would do so... but I haven't seen anything on the list from him since then.
I'm reluctant to offer to take responsibility for this book myself (due to my other committments), but I could do some coordination and guidance of others' efforts. For example, one of the Alans has offered to help with replacement screenshots and icons.
