Hello Frank and Drew:

I hope that this 2008 has had a good start and that it brings good health and
many accomplishments to your lives.

I was touched by Jean's farewell and I hope her the best. I am sorry we
couldn't finish the tutorial before her departure.

Drew, we are very close to finishing this tutorial. We already have a very good
text that explains the basics of database design and the options that BASE will
offer them and that they have to chose from. At this point, the users can
develop database structure with three levels of normal form, full with UML
diagrams, table dictionaries and even the form designs for the tutorial
example. This is no small feat!

Now we need to teach how to encode this with Base. You have told me that the
level of complexity I am aiming for requires the use of some ooBasic and the
UNO object model. I made my research and found this to be fine. Of course, I am
able to understand this at a theoretical level but you will have to explain me
how to actually implement it.

This is what is left to do:

1. Teach how to build the dynamic entry forms
2. Teach how to build the dynamic report forms

1. Forms like the Patient Data Form connect to the MD and psychiatrist tables,
allowing the user to link the patient with one of the existing entries or
creating a new one and then linking the patient to it. It also allows to record
one or more phone numbers for each patient. This is clear in the entry form
model I sent you. At another level, some entry is done using radio buttons (and
maybe check boxes). We need to show how to translate this click-and-point
procedure to data Base can handle.

2. Some reports will display individual records; Other reports will make
summaries of data. In either case, the information displayed will change
depending on conditional clauses.

Because you are the BASE expert, I need to work closely with you now. If we are
consistent, we could be finishing this quite soon (maybe within a month,
depending on your other commitments).

This is the last stretch of a quite complex project, of which I feel quite
proud. Please let me know your time availability.

Cheers,

Mariano.
