Hi everyone. I am going to try to write up a regular project status update (with a focus on some of the interesting highlights) so that we can all get a better idea of what is going on in general within the project, and keep tabs on the little side projects as well. Feel free to add your comments, ideas, agreements and disagreements... and, let me know of any major things I'm missing out on! If I've missed it, then it's likely that others in the project will also have missed it too.
November has been a busy month so far, with the highlight being the OOoCon2008 in Beijing. The "Day Zero" NLC meeting was very interesting. We talked in depth about the needs of the NLC group with respect to Documentation, the Wiki and NLC project goals. The meetings of that meeting will be posted soon... when I find the minutes, I will post them here so that none misses out on them. The OOo Wiki: ------------- There has been and will continue to be a focus on documentation in the Wiki. But, what is happening here? What is planned? The Wiki CSS is undergoing some rework. IvanM is spearheading a CSS update to bring the look of the Wiki more in line with the main OO.o website. This is being discussed over on the [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list. There is also the beginnings of a plan to update the Wiki engine. We are running on MediaWiki 1.11 right now, and 1.13.2 is the current version. We are running a little behind and this means that we are missing out on some interesting extensions that might be helpful to the Doc Project. More on this as it develops. Elizabeth Matthis will be picking up on the needs of the Wiki in general, focusing on bringing some order and sanity to the Wiki. The Wiki has really grown over the past couple of years, and it has evolved into something more than just a playground for developers. We need to meet the needs of the Users AND the Developers. This affects the Documentation project fairly deeply since we are using the Wiki a lot to publish our documentation... books, HowTos, Tutorials etc. The majority of the discussion will likely be held on the [EMAIL PROTECTED] and/or [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing lists. I expect there will be a Wiki page opened to outline the changes as well so you can follow long with the developments without having to subscribe to another mailing list :-) I can also summarize things that directly affect us in the Doc Project and post it to this mailing list. This is just getting started, so there is not much detail to chatter about just yet. The Documentation Project webpages: ----------------------------------- We've probably all noticed that there are a few things needing updates on the main Doc Project webpages. I hope to get working on that soon. Other than moving OO.o3.0 info to the front and a general tidy, are there other major things that need to be done to the web pages? The goal/focus of the webpages is still to provide a general overview of the project and a place to find static documentation. The evolving a live documentation will be on the Wiki. There is of course more going on... Martina is working on the Wiki style guide (this fits in nicely with the things Elizabeth will be working on)... the OOoAuthors have been busy updating the User guides for 3.0.0... Gabriel Gurley has provided his OO.o training materials to the project... and many many other things.
